Wallace Shawn is the author of “Marie and Bruce,” “The Fever,” and “The Designated Mourner,” among other plays. This spring, he starred in his first new play in a decade, “Grasses of a Thousand Colors,” at London’s Royal Court Theatre. As an actor, his many credits include the films “Manhattan” and “Vanya on 42nd Street” and the TV series “Gossip Girl.” His new book, “Essays,” is out in September.

John Lahr is The New Yorker’s senior drama critic and a two-time winner of the George Jean Nathan Award for Dramatic Criticism. He is the author of nineteen books, including “Light Fantastic,” “Show and Tell,” and “Honky Tonk Parade.” He was played by Wallace Shawn in a film adaptation of “Prick Up Your Ears,” his biography of Joe Orton.
